ICE CREAM!!!

I LOVE ICE CREAM!!!!! Seriously, remember that favorite monday where I had to choose my favorite flavor? Yeah, pretty much impossible.

Anyways, the reason for this post is because Tib alerted the blogging world that tomorrow Baskin Robbins is having 31-cent scoop night. Man oh man, this is where I am going to be!! I love ice cream so much, and to get a scoop for only 31 pennies? Seriously, I am so there and will get a minimum of 2 scoops. mmmm....

So now the question is, who's with me? If you want to come with me give me a holler by email or phone call and we'll figure out a time. If you're not in the same area as me, still go! Let me know how you celebrated 31-cent scoop night! yum, yum, yum! my mouth is watering at the prospect.

New Beginnings

Yesterday was a LOOOONG day. I spent all morning moving my stuff into my lovely new apartment on the second floor (which only consisted of one flight of 7 stairs) and unpacking all my boxes. I actually got a majority of them unpacked. Some of my kitchen stuff is still in a box, but really everything is unpacked and has a home. I went to bed around 10:30p, I was so tired!

So far today has been pretty good. I started Spring Term classes today. I thought my first class was at 9am, but I guess the time changed and I didn't catch it so I walked into class and it had already started at 8am. :P Sort of frustrating, but it was all good. There is a TON of reading for that class. (Kinesiology and other Dance Related Sciences) BUT the good thing is that it is interesting and not boring junk like Econ, Physical Science, and Statistics was, I think it helps that this is a Major class, so it's all about dance. I like it.

My schedule this spring is nice, I will have time before work to work on my research projects I have, eat lunch, maybe even take a nap! Although I will probably be way too busy to really do that, I might try it out once and a while. :) Tonight I go to my other class: Christian History. I'm rather excited because the Professor, Brother G is from my hometown and teaches Sunday School, so I have sat in on his classes before. It's going to be a whirlwind of a term and I can already see how fast these next 2 months are going to fly. However, I am SO excited for it all. Rock on.

sad.

My grandmother, who was 88, passed away early this morning. Her health had been failing for a while now, so this doesn't come at a surprise, but it is still sad. My grandfather has taken it hard and my mother is trying to be strong (I can tell) since she is all he has now. However, I know that this is hard for her too. My littlest sister, Sister D, is taking it well considering how close she is. She's cried a bit, and I can tell this is hard for her little 12 year-old self to handle. I can't imagine dealing with death at a young age. I mean, my other grandmother passed away when I was 7.5, but I don't think I really comprehended death at that point. I don't remember comprehending it.

I am so grateful right now for my knowledge of the Plan of Salvation and the peace it brings to my soul. I know that she is in a place where she can't hurt and I'm hoping that she is listening to those who are teaching her the gospel. She's always been stubborn, so it might take them awhile, but I have faith that she will accept. The fun day will be when we can actually submit her name and perform her temple work. That will be a neat experience for us all.

Now it's time to help with arrangements. This is all so weird to me. :P Have a beautiful Sunday everyone.

Nothing to do...

So I am sitting at my house in Payson with my family. There's not much to do in this cute little town when you're without a car. Stuffles was a sweetheart and came down to Payson so we could go to SF for lunch and a movie. We went and saw Nim's Island. This was such a fun movie! It had humor, adventure, suspense...and about 2 minutes of a love story. It was definitely worth the time and money spent into attending this well-made film. I really liked the photography and the animation used in it. It was a lot of fun to see the two mixed medias in a different way. It's a good movie for a date, for a family, or if you're silly and want to go to a movie by yourself, it's good for that too. :)

It's been a beautiful Saturday here in Utah. Slightly chilly outside, but sunny and beautiful. I wish I had gone for a run, but there is still hours in the day to do so. Maybe I'll fix my bike and then ride it around for a bit. It's so beautiful!! :-) Dinner will be on soon. BBQ ribs and Oriental Chicken Salad. Yum!! In fact, it is just about time to finish the salad and such. Have a great weekend y'all!

Moving, Convocation, and other what nots...

So because I'm a nice friend and roommate, and my poor roommate A's plan for her stuff fell through at 9pm last night, I called my mom and it was cleared that everything should fit in the truck. ha ha ha. yeah right. It totally did not fit. Good thing my dad was in Provo with the Van and we were able to put it in there, otherewise I have no idea what we would have done. Thankfully everything got packed up, I passed my cleaning check and everything is hunky dory.

Now here I sit at work, tired and wishing it was already 3:30 so I could leave to go to the Marriott Center for the college graduation that I get to help run. :P My skirt is hanging up ready for me to put on, and I think I'm ready to go and tell dazed graduates were to sit, stand, and walk.

That's all I feel like writing right now. I'll post more later. ciao.

Crazy Coeds

So sometimes coeds here at BYU do crazy things. And then they get caught, or get close to getting caught and the end up in the Police Beat. Here are some of the hilarious ones from this week, with comments by yours truly.

Disorderly Conduct

April 11: BYU police received a call that four male students were using the Helaman Halls pool even though it was not open yet. When the police officer arrived he was able to locate the students because they were the only students walking home wet. Okay, honestly? Can you be stupid enough to be close to the scene of the crime, showing off evidence?? I think this is hilarious.

April 15: A resident of May Hall was caught lighting toilet paper on fire in the men's restroom. Police are questioning him. Why would you light your TP on fire? Seriously, that stuff is gold.

Theft

April 9: A female student called her own cell phone after she discovered that it was missing. A person she did not know picked up the phone and refused to return it to her. The thief is now sending her friends text messages and sending them on erroneous "missions" to recover the phone. Her phone has not yet been recovered. This is just mean and cruel. Why would be so mean to hold on to a cell phone that isn't yours, sending people on "missions" to retrieve it, and then not give it back? Some people can be such jerks.

April 11: Someone stole 1,000 square feet of sod from west of Helaman Halls. Police have no suspects. This one really gets me. What would one want with sod? Really? You're going to steal grass? And do what with it? Plant it in your bathroom??? I mean, I like running through grass barefoot as much as the next person, but not enough to steal sod!!

Suspicious

April 13: Police questioned several students as to why they were looking in the windows of the Cannon Center. The students said that they thought they saw someone in the Cannon Center stealing school property, but when they got closer, they realized it was the reflection of the streetlights. ha ha ha. I bet they felt stupid. sounds like something i would do....

Welfare Check

April 8: The father of a student called BYU police when he had not heard from his daughter for four days. BYU police called the student and told her to call her father. okay really? you called the police because you couldn't get a hold of your daughter? Does she not have a phone? Why not call her on that? She probably has good reason not to call you. I can't imagine what would happen if this girl went on a mission and you had basically no phone contact for 18 MONTHS. wow.

FINI!!!!

Yes, my dear blogging friends, I am FINISHED! I just got home from golfing in the sun with my dear Bassbob. I love that boy. He is fantastic, and crazy. He's pictured below.

he's a great friend of mine. After my final final today (my little presentation) he and I went out to south east Provo and went golfing. I have never been real golfing in my life. It was FANTASTIC!! I loved it! Well, maybe loved is too strong a word. I had a lot of fun, and Bassbob told me I did very well for it being my first time on the green. I, however, was stupid and didn't wear a single drop of sunscreen. I am so sunburned it is not even funny. I have a very nice farmer's tan going, but it felt so good to be out in the sun, not worrying about finals at all. :-)

this is my arm. very sunburned. it hurts. and now i have a golfer's tan. :-)

I know have one whole week to play and not worry about a single class and then it will be time to buckle down. :-) I'm a happy camper. So, if you want to play, give me a call.

the last Monday...

So today is not my favorite monday seeing as I still have a final and a presentation to give...but the topic for todays' favorite monday is one that I couldn't resist. so dear friends it's time for [drum roll]

So the topic today is favorite candy. Tiburon already posted about her favorite candy, which happens to be one of my favorites. Choosing a favorite candy is hard for me to do, I love so many different kinds of candies and it really depends on my mood as to what I will eat. However, if I ever have to write down my favorite candy I choose one of the following, because they are tied for first place:

Yum. I love both of these candy bars. They are my favorite. Dang, now I want one....sigh. So, what's your favorite??

How to say good-bye

How do you say good-bye to someone who is dying? When they don't want to die, but at the same time they are in so much pain and are so old that it should be there time to go? I mean, really....I don't know how to do that. I've never done it before. The only time someone close to me has died was when I was 7.5 years old and my dad's mom died. However, she died very suddenly and unexpectedly that I never go to say good-bye to her. I went to the funeral. I remember being excited to see my cousins and play with them, and I remember seeing her in the casket and putting a white rose in there....but other than that there was no real goodbye.

Now my mom's mom is not doing so well. She was in the hospital for a long time and is currently in a rest home, and she's not doing so well. In fact, they've brought in a hospice nurse and we're just kind of waiting to see what happens. I went to visit her last night with my mom and grandpa and she talked to me a little bit, my mom said that was the most coherent she had been in 24 hours. I haven't had to deal with death this closely before and it will be interesting to see what happens when she dies. I know there won't really be a funeral per se, that isn't what my grandma wants, but we will all need closure and who knows how that will happen. Death certainly is an interesting aspect of life. I don't think I like dealing with it.

Another one bites the dust.....

One final down! One to go! Unfortunately for me, the one that I have left is my class that I hate this semester. Physical Science. I will be studying a good portion of the afternoon today, and Monday. on Tuesday I have a presentation that is no big deal, just time consuming, and then that afternoon I plan on taking my Physical Science Final. I hope and pray that I can do semi-well on this final. Ick. I did get sunburned yesterday while studying for this morning's final. While having the backs of my legs sunburned is not fun at all, I do enjoy the act that it was warm enough to get sunburned. Too bad it's supposed to rain or snow or something tomorrow. Stupid weather.

Not much else is new on my front. I wish it was; however, I do believe that new and exciting things are definitely on the horizon. Just give me a week or so. Until then, enjoy the sunshine!!!

melts in your mouth, not in your hand....

m&ms. the best thing ever. seriously, i don't know how I would have stayed awake this morning at work had it not been for these wonderful little gems of chocolate. Today's variety was that of dark chocolate. The wonderful Bookstore has them available by the pound. Taking advantage of this wonderful convenience, I asekd for $1 worth of this yummy goodness. These little candies are SO good, especially since I love dark chocolate. So for all of you dark chocolate lovers out there that haven't tried m&ms dark.... I encourage you to do so now. You won't regret it, I promise.

I am not an elephant....

Because I forget things. All the time. Unlike elephants, who never forget. ;) (name the movie!)

See...the thing I forgot this week is the fact that I have..........allergies. Yes, my dear readers, allergy season has hit Cougar Town. My nose is stuffy, I sneeze like crazy, and I have extremely itchy eyes. Itchy eyes are no good...especially when one wears contacts. In fact, it was bothering me SO bad, I took my contacts out at 4:30 this afternoon. I haven't had to do that in ages.

In other news, I went to the last of my classes today. NO MORE CLASS!! well....for two weeks at least. :P All I have left is to finish my piano final (tomorrow), do my piano recording (by Friday afternoon), take my Methodology final (Saturday, 7am. YUCK), give my ballet presentation (Tuesday at 11), and take my Physical Science final (testing center, most likely Tuesday afternoon). THEN I am DONE with Winter 2008 and will move to my new apartment and start spring term. Wow. Things are busy around here....but not so much that I feel like I'm going to die.

My favorite Monday!

I love Mondays.... today Tiburon has asked for our favorite band! This is hard for me. I love music! I listen to a random collection of everything, but lately my favorite band has been....Michael Bublé! Oh how I love me some Bublé....sigh. He's a dream to look at, and wonderful to listen to!!

Sigh....Save the Last Dance For Me, Home, all of his music is just so wonderful to listen to, not to mention dance to! :-) So what about you? Who makes your heart sing?

Music 2.0

Remember how once upon a time I put up a mini-list of music that helped me with my hard time?

Well, a very dear and close friend of mine is experienceing the same type of hard time right now, and like a good friend I'm trying to help him out. He and I hung out tonight and I tried to help get his mind off the whole thing just by talking and being his friend, much like he did for me when all of a sudden, I remembered my music list. I still had it lurking in my iTunes list and told him that I had music that would help him out. See, he's a musician so I know music helps him just as much, if not more than, it does for me. As I refined the list for him (some of the songs were more geared towards me and wouldn't work for him) I realized that this was something I could share with all y'all. So here it is, a list of music to help you with hard times. We can do hard things, and this list of music will help you do them, I promise. Godspeed.

something should go here

i have had this window open for hours on end thinking there is something i should post about, some sweet story about an adventure, or perhaps complaints about finals, etc. However, finals are a breeze for me. Once I take my physical science test this weekend, then I can buckle down and study for the final. Also, I only have one other "test" and a presentation to give and I'm good to go for this semester!

I'm actually very anxious for this semester to end. There are great feelings in the air that I am sensing about the future. I know that it all comes down to the end of this semester and moving. I don't know why, but I just feel SO good about my plans for the next year. I hope to add other things to my already great plans, but we'll see if that happens or not.

Anywho, I am so excited, I have a feeling I'm going to have some great posts in the next year!!! So, dear readers, stay tuned!!! :-)

Awards Luncheon

Doesn't this food just look divine? We had the Ballet Awards Luncheon on Friday and the food was incredible.
Posted by Picasa

I was awarded a special award at this luncheon. It was the "Achievement in Choreography Award." I was very excited about receiving this award. It was good for me, because my choreography was not a senior project, and yet still got to be performed on stage, which is a rare opportunity!! So yeah, big deal. Tonight we had the Dance Majors Award Banquet, and I found out that I got a scholarship for Fall/Winter. I'll find out about the Spring/Summer scholarships in the mail. Go me! It's been an exciting few days with free food all around!!!

Mondays!!

So I've decided to join the boat....and particpate in "My Favorite Monday!"
I mean, all the cool kids do it just Tiburon (who started it!), Chilly, and Katria (although Chilly and Katria have yet to participate today....hint hint)

Anywho....today's Favorite Monday is [drum roll] FAVORITE ICE CREAM FLAVOR!!!

Any body who truly knows me, knows that I LOVE ice cream, and I hardly ever turn it down! I like pretty much every flavor, although I guess for today I can narrow it down to the top three (because really I don't think I could pick just one)

3. Ben & Jerry's Karamel Sutra - oh yummy caramel goodness. sigh. I love caramel. It is so yummy in my tummy. mmm-mmm good.

2. Baskin-Robbins Love Potion #31 - Just read this description - Cupid's White Chocolate and Raspberry ice creams swirled with a raspberry ribbon and loaded with raspberry-filled chocolate hearts and chocolate chips. Now tell me, doesn't that sound divine? Oh and it is!

the picture can't do it justice...

1. And last but not least, the flavor that I can eat anytime, anywhere.....Neopolitan.

This ice cream is gold...I mean truly, 3 flavors in one? How could you go wrong??? Yum. Now I want ice cream...good thing I'm going grocery shopping today (which is a much needed trip my friends, no bread, cereal, eggs, or meat of any kind in my fridge....definitely time to go shopping.)

Honestly, I LOVE ice cream. Yum.

178th Annual General Conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

I love General Conference. Not just because I can sit at home and "go to church" with out getting ready, but I love it because of all the wonderful truths that are spoken. I got so many (as a former seminary teacher would say) "gold nuggets" out of the 178th Annual General Conference. It was absolutely wonderful.

Let's do a recap.

Saturday Morning Session

D. Todd Christofferson is called as the new Apostle and member of the Quorum of the Twelve. This is cool in so many ways. For the first time in the past few years, I recognize the name of the newest member of the Twelve! The other 3 times an apostle has been called (that I can remember) I haven't heard of them before; however, I have always grown to love them. This time, I know D. Todd Christofferson, have heard him speak, and am excited for his future conference talks!

Next to hearing who the new member of the Twelve was, the other really cool thing about the Saturday morning session was particpating in the solemn assembly. Even though I was the only one in my apartment at the time, it was still very cool. I can only imagine what it would have been like had I been in the conference center. Another time perhaps.

Elder Nelson was the first speaker of this conference, and his talk on bringing up righteous children and spreading the gospel was a wonderful way to get things going.

There were many talks in this session, but the one I enjoyed by far, was Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin's. His talk on being disciples and helping those who have strayed from the gospel was so pure and simple that the power behind it was incredible. I love the gems of truth that Elder Wirthlin has in his talks. He is an amazing man and I love listening to him speak, and then rereading his talks later on.

Saturday Afternoon Session

This session was cool on many levels. The first being that Chilly got me tickets (thanks again hun!) and my seats were INCREDIBLE!!!! I took FHE brother TK and we went up to SLC to enjoy the session. We sat about 10 rows from the front and we were dead center. It was amazing, kind of like sitting in church! Looking at a tv screen wasn't really an option, it was much easier to see the speaker by looking right at them. It was very cool and so wonderful. The spirit was very strong.

My favorite speaker from this session was .... oh it's so hard to choose!! I loved all the talks from this session, but I believe the one that was most important for me and my life right now was Elder Oaks talk, with Elder Perry's talk a very close second. Elder Oaks talked about testimonies and what is needed for one. He discussed what a testimony is and how one should go about improving their testimony.

Elder Perry talked about a Recipe for Eternal Life. This was a wonderful talk, and I loved listening to his suggestions. My favorite line of his was, "Enduring to the end is not a do-it yourself project." I really liked that, because it is so true! We can't endure to the end by ourselves, we need our friends, family, church leaders, and most of all the Atonement and our Savior to help us get through the things we must endure to the end.

Also, Elder Scott's talk was very powerful. Wow, the spirit that was there so strong and I know that talk was meant to be mentioned at that time. Why, I am not sure, but it was definitely a very well done talk.

Sunday Morning Session

One of my favorite speakers has always been President Thomas S. Monson. I loved the talk he gave in the morning session of conference. The other talk that really seemed to stand out to me was that of Sister Susan W. Tanner. Her talk on delight and families really stood out to me. I'm not exactly sure why, but there was something about her talk that I really liked. I took some notes on it, but I think there was jsut something about the spirit and the way she taught the simple gospel truths. I am excited to reread her talk once the transcript becomes available.

Sunday Afternoon Session

For this session I went to my friend BG's house so that I didn't have to sit through a session of conference by myself (since I had already done that once this weekend, I didn't want to do it again...) The Afternoon session today was freaking amazing. I really enjoyed all of the talks. However, the ones that stood out to me the most were those of Elder Holland, Elder Bednar, and Elder Ballard. Talk about amazing spiritual gems. The experiences I had are close to my heart and are things I'm not going to share here...but if you want to sit and chat one day I might share some of my personal insights I had, especially during Elder Bednar's talk. That man has a talent for speaking in gold nuggets.

I loved how President Monson closed conference. I thought it was a wonderful ending to an amazing session of conference. There was a beautiful spirit about all the sessions of conference. In some ways it felt different without President Hinckley, but at the same it was a wonderful General Conference. I feel so uplifted, strengthened and I have a renewed zeal to carry on.

Steadfast and Immovable

Mosiah 5:15
Therefore, I would that ye should be steadfast and immovable, always abounding in good works, that Christ, the Lord God Omnipotent, may seal you his, that you may be brought to heaven, that ye may have everlasting salvation and eternal life, through the wisdom, and power, and justice, and mercy of him who created all things, in heaven and in earth, who is God above all. Amen.

I had this scripture come to me today while I was at work. Add that to the fact that Chilly and I were having a somewhat deep, religious conversation and my thoughts were stirred, the following post came to me. :-)

I don't know where to start, there are so many thoughts running through my head about the gospel and things I would like to post about, but I think the first area I want to start is based off of President Eyering's talk from the YW broadcast that I went to. President Eyering talked about life and the light that we have to guide us through. This is something that I needed to be reminded of. Right now there are a lot of crazy decisions that I have to make right now. So the gentle reminder that I have already chosen to make the journey of life in the light, was a very nice one.

President Eyering said that "if Satan can get us to wander, he can do harm and bring misery to many." This is so true! So how do we avoid wandering? We need to find friends that will help us from wandering. These friends can help us get closer to the light, or Christ, but at the same time they can also pull us away. This is why picking good friends is so important in our lives. I am so grateful for the wonderful friends I have! They are amazing to me! I have such a strong support system in my life and it amazes me all the time. Something that President Eyering said in quoting Moroni is that because we in this day are so valuable, some of our trials may be more severe than we would like; however, the way has been prepared for us. We have an amazingly loving Savior who has paved the path and shown us the way. The path is lit with his example, light, and love. We need to remember to have faith to pray that we will feel the illumination of the Spirit.

President Eyering said in closing, "I promise you that within the next few days you will feel the illumination of the Spirit of Christ and the Holy Ghost in your everyday life. When you walk in the light, you will feel at that moment some of the warmth and the happiness that will finally be yours when you are welcomed home again with the hundreds and perhaps thousands of others whom you will bring with you, who have walked in the light because you did." This is so amazing to me. I know that shortly after this talk I did feel the illumination of the Spirit. It was so strong that I realized it was something that I really wanted to have every day in my life!

This is something I am striving for. I am striving to live in the light. I testify that the light is the place to be, it is wonderful. I want to be there for my friends and help them find the light like they are helping me find the light. So to all y'all out there, THANK YOU for helping guide me to the light that helps guide my life. I hope that you know that I am there for you, and if you need anything please ask. This gospel is so amazingly true and I love every aspect of it. It is so exciting to be a part of something so marvelous.

Dear ST, aka JERKFACE:

I was sitting in the Cougareat today working on my Physical Science class, chatting with a roommate, and listening to some classical music when I saw you walk by. I said your name, but you didn't hear me. Moments later I caught your glance and then I looked away. You were busy conversing with friends, but I thought for sure you would stop by my table (which was only 3 tables from yours) and say hello. I mean honestly, we may not be dating, but you did hold my hand and we are friends so I figured you would at least acknowledge my presence and say hello.
BUT NO. YOU WALKED ON BY and talked to another friend whose table was two behind me. "That's fine," i thought to myself, "he'll come say hello before he leaves." Again, I was wrong. YOU JERK FACE! I can't believe you wouldn't say hello!!!! I mean really? Did I do anything bad to you? I mean, I might have come off as a little forward and perhaps clingy...(which I'm working on btw) but did you really have to IGNORE me??

Seriously? You wouldn't even acknowledge my presence? That's low ST, very low. In fact, so low that I have lost a lot of respect for you. I no longer hold even the sliver of interest in you. You were on the back burner this past week for not calling me/asking me out after showing interest so quickly...but now....now you are gone. We are done. No more ST, no more. I will forever be busy when you call. I will take hours to answer your text. Eventually I will tell you that I think you're stupid...but for now....I am not going to give in. We, my friend, are DONE. No more. No more.

April Fool's Day

Once upon a time I was a good little 8th grader in Junior High. I was a straight-A student with my eyes set upon BYU once I graduated. The day was April 1, 2000. (that was so long ago) I was sitting in my English? class (or something like that) when I gut summoned by the Student Council. I was slightly confused as to why they would want to meet with me, but like a good little girl (and wanting to get out of class) I walked through the halls to the room where they were meeting.

Unsuspectingly I walked in and Mr. President asked me to be seated. He then told me why I had been summoned. He said that I had been caught cheating on a Math test and that I was on "trial" for what would be done because of my cheating. He said that Susie (names have been changed) would represent me and my "case." Mr. President began to question me and why I would have cheated. At first I was in shock, me? Alishka? cheat on a test? Why I would never! I tried to explain this to Mr. President, but he insisted that I had, in fact, cheated on the test. I began to cry. (I seem to remember a look in Mr. President's eyes....but I didn't realize what it meant until later) Mr. President asked me and Susie to step in the hall while he and the other person that was there decided what would happen to me. I was in tears, "I have never cheated!" I explained to Susie...she was empathetic and explained that nothing too horrible could happen. Mr. President called us back in....I was asked to be seated...and he told me that they had decided what to do, that I should never cheat again, and here was a piece of paper with my "sentence" on it. I looked at the paper and what did it say? "April Fool's" I was dumb-founded. I laughed. I wiped my tears, and the Student Council got a good laugh.

I definitely laugh about this one more now then I did when I was 14....but it was pretty humorous. Although I wonder if Mr. President feels bad that he made me cry???

So dear readers....has anyone ever pulled your leg good and hard?
